Lagido: the heart of surfing in Baleal
Among the iconic waves of the Portuguese coast, Lagide stands out as one of the most beloved spots for surfers of all levels. Located in Baleal, in the heart of Peniche, this reef break overlooking the Atlantic Ocean is a real institution for those seeking consistent waves, spectacular scenery, and a vibrant atmosphere.
A reef break for all tastes
Lagide is mainly a right-hand reef break, but in certain conditions it also offers interesting lefts. Its rocky formation creates clean, well-formed waves, ideal for both those perfecting their maneuvers and more experienced surfers looking for performance and variety.
With medium-high tides and swells from the northwest, Lagide can offer unforgettable sessions: long, fast, and sometimes even tubing waves, perfect for practicing timing, wave reading, and fluidity of movement.
Ideal for those who want to grow
One of Lagide’s most appreciated features is its gradual technical accessibility. This spot allows intermediate surfers to progress with confidence, thanks to waves that offer time to maneuver and the possibility to read the peak well.
At the same time, with more powerful swells and the right conditions, Lagide also challenges the most experienced surfers with fast waves and vertical sections.
This is one of the reasons why we often choose it for our advanced lessons and for those who want to really improve their surfing in challenging but manageable conditions.
Location and atmosphere
Lagide is located right in front of the north beach of Baleal, a short walk from the Surfnesslodge. It is an easily accessible spot with nearby parking and panoramic ocean views.
The area is very popular with local and international surfers, but the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, typical of the Portuguese surfing spirit.
Nearby you’ll find bars, surf shops, and ideal places to relax after your session. It’s the perfect place to spend the whole day enjoying waves, sun, and good food.
